Water Quality

Water Quality
Lewiston Orchards Irrigation District takes its water quality very seriously.  LOID is required to have the domestic water tested several times a month.  Annual reports of LOID's water quality are sent to our patrons.  The Environmental Protection Agency mandates these reports and LOID is committed to our product- good, clean water.

How often does LOID test the drinking water?
The Lewiston Orchards Irrigation District conducts over 500 bacteriological tests annually and test for over 100 potential chemical contaminants.

Where does the drinking water come from?
Your drinking water comes from ground water. We have wells located on Warner Avenue (Well #3), near Mann Lake (Well #2), and in Hereth Park (Well #4). Well #1 at 1520 Powers has been out of production since 1998.

What is water hardness?
Water hardness refers to dissolved minerals (calcium and magnesium) in your water that are naturally found in our aquifer that interfere with the sudsing action of soap, the harder the water, the less the sudsing action. The water hardness in the Orchards ranges from lightly hard to moderately hard.

See our Water Hardness chart below:
